Pelargonium sidoides - the science explained
The dried rhizomes of Pelargonium sidoides contain a host of chemical compounds. Among these are powerful polyphenols, including gallic acids. Polyphenols are a group of plant chemicals, which represent potent plant defence chemicals and act as powerful antioxidants, attributing to the antibacterial and antiviral effects.
The root extracts are rich in coumarins, including a unique phytochemical called ‘umckalin’, responsible for the immunomodulatory activity.
The plant’s tuberous root’s distinct maroon appearance is due to its Anthocyanin content, a type of flavonoid with strong antioxidant effects. In addition, the root extract also contains other powerful flavonoids, including quercetin, catechin and gallocatechin, providing anti- inflammatory and immune boosting properties.

Up in the high altitudes of the mountains of Lesotho, the harsh environment yields Pelargonium sidoides roots with the most potent phytoconstituents. Our dedicated harvesters use organic, non-commercial methods and uphold sustainable harvesting practice. The roots are carefully selected according to purity and potency and then transported down the mountains passes to our processing facility, where each root is carefully washed, dried and milled.
In collaboration with experts in the field, including renowned universities, we conduct laboratory analyses to determine the potency and purity of the plant’s phytoconsituents.
